Respecting the environment is part of Diamante Geração de Energia’s mission. For this reason, the company identifies the environmental aspects of its activities and acts to mitigate the impacts by adopting a variety of monitoring and controls. In addition, the company is committed to contributing to the conservation of natural resources and environmental education in the regions where it operates.
The Diamante Energia Forest Garden occupies an area of 10,500 m² inside the Jorge Lacerda Thermoelectric Complex, where approximately 8,000 tree seedlings are grown every month, with a focus on species native to the Atlantic Forest, for donation to the community, educational institutions and other public and private organizations.
Since it opened in 1989, more than 2 million seedlings have been donated and used in environmental education, reforestation and recovery projects.
Inside the Forest Garden, there is also an internal composting process for all the organic waste generated in the restaurant and pantries of the Jorge Lacerda Thermoelectric Complex. In the composting process, beds are built (similar to flowerbeds), using dry vegetable matter as a base (grass and leaves). The manual mixing of this material with the waste guarantees the presence of oxygen in the process. This method allows microorganisms to transform organic matter into natural fertilizer, rich in macro and micronutrients, which is used in the production of seedlings, avoiding the purchase of chemical fertilizers and the disposal of this waste in landfills.
Go directly to the Horto Florestal and fill in the seedling donation form at the time of collection, marking the seedlings you wish to take. (Check availability).
