Environmental Management

Since 2004, the Jorge Lacerda Thermoelectric Complex has been certified to the ISO 14001 standard on Environmental Management, enabling it to adopt best practices.

Environmental licenses

Environmental licensing is established by Law 6.938/81, which provides for the National Environmental Policy, and is conducted by the competent environmental bodies, establishing the requirements for the installation, operation and expansion of undertakings.

The Jorge Lacerda Thermoelectric Complex has been licensed since the 1980s by the Santa Catarina Environment Institute (formerly FATMA) and has 4 current Environmental Operating Licenses.

The use of water for the activities is licensed by the Santa Catarina Department of Sustainable Development.

Environmental Controls and Monitoring

The monitoring of atmospheric emissions from all the units of the Jorge Lacerda Thermoelectric Complex is carried out by a specialized company certified to ISO/IEC 17025, based on current legislation and international standards.

To control particulate emissions into the atmosphere, all units have filters (electrostatic precipitators) with a retention efficiency of over 99%.

The region’s air quality is monitored 24 hours a day by three air monitoring stations. monitoring stations located in Tubarão and Capivari de Baixo and a weather station installed in the Diamante +Energia Environmental Park. All continuous monitoring data is automatically transmitted to environmental agencies.

The Jorge Lacerda Thermoelectric Complex’s water and effluent monitoring plan includes 11 points located at the effluent discharge points and upstream and downstream on the Capivari and Tubarão rivers.

Groundwater is also monitored in the area of influence of the project, using 46 piezometers to collect subsurface water and 9 points to collect surface water. surface water collection points.

All analyses are carried out by a laboratory recognized by the environmental agency and ISO/IEC 17025 certified.

The parameters analyzed are compared with current legislation and reports sent to the Environmental Institute of Santa Catarina. Detailed reports can also be consulted here.

Waste Management

Waste management is carried out in accordance with the PGRS (Solid Waste Management Plan), drawn up in accordance with current environmental legislation, with a view to adopting the best practices for segregation, collection, storage, transportation and final disposal.

The main objective of our waste management is to raise awareness among employees, minimizing the generation of waste and guiding its disposal in landfills.

Some actions are worth highlighting:

0%

of the light ash generated is destined for the cement industry.

0%

100% of organic waste is composted internally.

0%

of the paper, cardboard and plastic generated is sold for recycling and the money used for social projects.

Environmental Protection Team

Diamante Geração de Energia has a team specialized in combating environmental emergencies, called EPA – Environmental Protection Team. EPA members have specific training recognized by the Navy and international bodies. All this knowledge, together with the infrastructure and procedures for response, is put into practice and periodically evaluated through simulations that certify the team’s ability to act in the event of occurrences such as oil spills and leaks that could reach water bodies.

The EPA’s work is not restricted to the CTJL. Through partnerships with the IMA – Environmental Institute and the Environmental Police, the EPA has a special focus on preserving the waters of the Tubarão River Basin and the Lagoon Complex, since the team is prepared to act in environmental emergencies in these regions as well, such as the one that took place in the Laranjeiras Canal involving an oil spill in the Imaruí Lagoon.
