The Diamante Forest Garden occupies an area of 3 hectares inside the Jorge Lacerda Thermoelectric Complex, where around 8,000 tree seedlings are grown every month. The space houses a seedling nursery, a seedbed and a composting area for organic waste.
The Horto’s focus is on species native to the Atlantic Forest, for donation to the community, educational institutions and other public and private organizations.
Since it opened in 1989, more than 2 million seedlings have been donated and used in environmental education, reforestation and recovery projects.
Inside the Forest Garden, there is also an internal composting process for all the organic waste generated in the restaurant and pantries of the Jorge Lacerda Thermoelectric Complex. In the composting process, beds are built (similar to flowerbeds), using dry vegetable matter as a base (grass and leaves) and mixing this material with the waste by hand, ensuring the presence of oxygen in the process. This method allows microorganisms to transform organic matter into natural fertilizer, rich in macro and micronutrients, which is used in the production of seedlings, avoiding the purchase of chemical fertilizers and the disposal of this waste in landfills.
Go directly to the Horto Florestal and fill in the seedling donation form at the time of collection, marking the seedlings you wish to take. (Check availability).
Collaborate with native tree seeds to form new seedlings.
Identify the material (seeds) and leave it in our garden with one of our employees or contact us by e-mail and telephone so that we can pick it up.
